THE MANNER OF LIFE – We Really do Need Each Other
In this portion of Philippians, Paul talks about a layperson named Epaphroditus. He was sent by the church to minister to Paul in prison. He became very sick and had to return home. He would be the bearer of the letter to the Philippian church.
Epaphroditus not only ministered to Paul but had to be ministered to. He came to a point in his life where he had to allow others the opportunity to minister to him.
“We really do need each other. And if it takes until Jesus comes back, we had better stay together and help each other. I dare say, many of us will be tired and empty from opening ourselves and our resources to others. But, no matter how long it takes, we have to go together because that is how it is in the body of Christ.”
Rubin Welch, former Point Loma chaplain
Over the years, I have continued to see the importance of this statement.
My prayer for One Hope is that we continue to help and come alongside one another.
That the caring and fellowship of the each church will remain part of our church. If I can be of help to you or your family, please let me know.
With all of us bearing one another’s burdens, I know God will bless us all here at One Hope.
WE REALLY DO NEED EACH OTHER…
May we affirm that statement as we gather to worship our Lord on this (and every) Sunday.
Encouraging One Another,
Pastor Mike
Key Scripture: Philippians 2:25-30
25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. 29 So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him, 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.
