STRENGHTHENING TODAY’S FAMILY – ARE YOU FUN TO LIVE WITH?

This morning, we begin a new series on strengthening today’s family. All of us are part of a family. Not every family is the same, and the structure is constantly changing.

The family unit is ordained by our Lord. Families should be sources of strength, encouragement, rest, and refuge. The support and encouragement a family can bring to each other is vital. Unfortunately, there are so many obstacles and influences that are undermining and weakening families. There is too much at stake to ignore the need to strengthen and protect our family units.

In this series, you will learn Biblical perspectives and teachings regarding the family. You will be given practical and concrete ways you can strengthen your family. I pray this series will not only strengthen your own family, but also encourage you to share this message so that other families can be strengthened.

We will begin this series with a question, “are you fun to live with?” I want to work with this simple question as you think of yourself and people within your family unit. I believe your reaction and honesty to this question will help you look within yourself and help you see yourself as your family does. Regardless of how you answer this question, I hope that after experiencing this message, you will be able to begin the process towards a positive answer. Enjoy this morning’s worship service and message.

Encouraging One Another,

Pastor Mike

Key Scripture: Ephesians 4:20-5:2

20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 26 “In your anger do not sin”[a]: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. 28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.

29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
