Off the Shore, Into the Water

This morning, we conclude the series on “Becoming a Stretcher Bearer.” It is an understanding into the biblical concept of encouragement and support.

A few weeks ago I made the analogy that when you see someone drowning, you need to jump into the water to save them. You can’t just stand by and watch. When we see someone in need, we can’t just stand by and watch. We need to jump in and respond to the issues in their lives. Sure, there is risk and inconvenience involved for us, but the effort is worth it.

I hope this morning’s message will be challenging each one of us to get involved and come alongside of people who are in need.

The key scripture is Matthew 9:35-38.

The Workers Are Few

35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
