Wheat & Weeds
Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). But what does that look like in our daily lives? In His parables. Jesus gives us glimpses of God’s kingdom at work in the world. This morning, we begin a new sermon mini-series on our greater parables series, “The Kingdom of Heaven is Like…” We’ll start with the Parable of the Weeds (Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43). Jesus tells of a farmer who plants good wheat, but an enemy secretly sows weeds among them. The farmer allows both to grow until the harvest, when the wheat and weeds will be separated. This parable reminds us of three important truths: God is at work, but so is the enemy. We live in a world where good and evil grow side by side, but God is still in control. God is patient. He allows time for people to turn to Him, and He calls us to grow in faithfulness despite the weeds around us. God has a plan. A day is coming when He will set everything right, and His people will shine in His kingdom forever. Until then, let’s remain faithful, trust His timing, and pray for His kingdom to come in our lives, our church, and our world.
