The New Life in Christ
This Sunday we celebrate Father’s Day—a time to thank God for the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who have loved, sacrificed, worked hard, and faithfully pointed their families toward Christ. A father’s influence extends far beyond providing a home or meeting physical needs. Through his words, his character, and his example, he helps shape the hearts and lives of future generations. We are thankful for the many godly men in our church who strive each day to lead with humility, integrity, and love.
After calling the church to unity in the first half of the chapter, Paul now reminds believers that following Jesus is far more than simply professing faith. It is embracing an entirely new way of life. We are called to leave behind the old patterns of sin, selfishness, anger, dishonesty, and bitterness, and to “put on the new self,” created to reflect the righteousness and holiness of Christ.
For fathers, this passage offers a powerful reminder that the greatest legacy we can leave our children is not financial security, athletic success, or professional achievement. Our greatest legacy is a life that consistently reflects Jesus Christ. Our children will remember whether we loved well, forgave freely, spoke kindly, admitted our failures, and faithfully walked with the Lord. Long after possessions fade and accomplishments are forgotten, a Christlike example will continue to shape generations.
Happy Father’s Day! I am honored to worship with you and pray that God will continue to strengthen every family as we seek to follow Him together.
In Christ,
Pastor Patrick
