The Danger of “Good Enough”
Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “At least I’m not as bad as THAT person?” It’s a subtle trap—one that sneaks into our hearts and quietly convinces us that we’re “good enough” for God on our own merit. But we fool ourselves when we compare ourselves to others.
Jesus tells a parable in Luke 18:9-14 that flips our “comparison” thinking upside down.
Two men went to pray. One was respected, religious, and proud of his performance. The other was rejected, broken, and painfully aware of his need for mercy. Shockingly, it was the outcast—the one who simply cried,
“God, have mercy on me, a sinner”—who ended up being forgiven, accepted, and right with God.
Today, we’ll unpack this powerful parable and discover why pride distances us from God, while humility draws us near to Him. The good news? God isn’t looking for perfect people—He’s looking for honest ones.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up!
