Lights of the World
In Matthew 5:16. Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” In Philippians 2:12-30, Paul reminds us that our faith is not meant to remain inside the walls of the church. God desires to work through our lives so that His light can be seen wherever He has placed us.
Paul writes, “Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, ‘children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.’ Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky” (Philippians 2:14-15).
Notice the connection: how we live affects how brightly we shine. Our attitudes, our words, our faithfulness, and even the way we respond when life is difficult can point people toward Christ.
Paul also reminds us that we are to “hold firmly to the word of life.” We shine by holding onto God’s truth while the world around us grows darker. We don’t have to become like the world in order to reach the world. We simply need to faithfully live out the good news we proclaim.
So today, let us be encouraged by Paul’s challenge: “You shine among them like stars in the sky.”
Wherever God has placed you, shine there. In your home. At work. In your neighborhood. With your friends. In your church.
The world does not need more darkness. It needs people who will faithfully reflect the light of Christ.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine,
Pastor Patrick
