Husbands and Wives
One of God’s greatest gifts to humanity is marriage. In a world where relationships are often viewed as temporary or self-serving, God’s Word presents a beautiful and enduring picture of covenant love. In Ephesians 5:21-33, Paul reminds us that marriage is much more than two people sharing a home. The New Testament presents marriage as a living illustration of the relationship between Jesus Christ and His Church. Every Christian marriage has the opportunity to proclaim and model the Gospel through sacrificial love, mutual honor, forgiveness, and unwavering commitment.
This passage is often misunderstood because it is read apart from its context. Before Paul ever speaks about husbands and wives, he calls all believers to “submit to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Ephesians 5:21). Spirit-filled homes are marked not by selfishness or competition, but by humility, service, and love. Husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loved the Church. Christ gave Himself sacrificially for the good of the Church. Wives are called to honor and respect their husbands as partners in God’s design for the family. These complementary roles are not about superiority or inferiority, but about reflecting the selfless love and unity found in Christ.

We are all called to put others before ourselves, extend grace generously, forgive freely, and pursue unity through love.
