Consumer or Contributor
As we prepare to go to two services in two weeks to make room for more visitors in the fall, we will explore a vital message contrasting two different approaches to our faith: The Consumer Approach and the Contributor Approach. As we consume God’s Word together, we’ll examine the difference between those who primarily seek to receive and those who live with a sense of mission, seeking to serve.
Consumer Christians often approach church with a focus on what they can get—whether it’s comfort, entertainment, programs, or personal fulfillment. While there is nothing wrong with being nourished and encouraged by the church, the danger lies in staying in a mindset that is self-centered and passive.
On the other hand, Contributor Christians understand their calling to contribute to the church’s mission. They embrace the Great Commission, finding joy and fulfillment in serving others, using their gifts to build up the body of Christ, and actively participating in God’s work.
Our challenge as believers is to balance both aspects. We are called to consume the Word of God, allowing it to transform and equip us. But this consumption should naturally lead to contribution—using our gifts to advance God’s kingdom.
Let’s come together with open hearts, ready to be both fed by God’s Word and motivated to fulfill His mission. As we prepare to start two services on September 15, be praying about how you can use your gifts to further God’s Kingdom.
