Boasting in the Cross
Officeonehope   -

Today, we find ourselves standing at a meaningful intersection—Baptism Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week, and the final message in Galatians.

In Galatians 6:14, Paul makes a bold and defining statement: “Far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

After everything Paul has written—about grace, freedom, the Spirit, and the dangers of legalism—he brings it all down to one central truth: the cross is everything.

It’s easy for us to boast in other things. We can subtly place our confidence in our efforts, our morality, our church involvement, or how we appear to others. But Paul reminds us that none of those things can save us, change us, or sustain us. Only the cross can do that.

Today, we will watch people take the step of baptism—publicly declaring that their old life is gone and their new life is found in Christ. What a beautiful picture of what the cross accomplishes! Death to self, and new life through Jesus.

And as we enter Holy Week, beginning with Palm Sunday, we remember that the same crowd who shouted “Hosanna” would soon cry out “Crucify Him.” It’s a sobering reminder that following Jesus is not about momentary excitement—it’s about true surrender and a full commitment.

So as we move toward Easter, let’s not just go through the motions. Let’s fix our eyes on the cross. Let’s examine our hearts. Let’s lay down anything we’ve been boasting in that isn’t Christ alone.

May this week be one of deep reflection, renewed gratitude, and bold faith.

Because at the end of it all, there is only one thing worth boasting in—the cross of Jesus Christ.

Have a reflective Holy Week,

Pastor Patrick
