Sons, Heirs, & Personal Concerns

In Galatians 4:1–20, Paul reminds us of a powerful truth: through Jesus Christ, we are no longer slaves, but sons and heirs of God. Before Christ, we were held captive under sin and the law, like a child living under guardians. But at just the right time, God sent His Son to redeem us, and He has given us His Spirit so that we can cry out, “Abba, Father.” What amazing grace—God has not only forgiven us, He has adopted us into His family.

Paul also gives a loving warning: do not go back into spiritual bondage. The Galatians were tempted to return to rules, rituals, and religious striving, but Paul calls them to stand firm in the freedom of grace. Legalism may look spiritual, but it cannot give life or joy. Anything added to Christ eventually steals the peace that comes from simply trusting Him. Remember this: you are not a servant trying to earn God’s love—you are a child who already has it.

Finally, Paul’s words are deeply personal. He pleads with the church because he longs to see Christ formed in them. This is the heart of the gospel: God wants more than outward religion—He wants a living relationship with His sons and daughters. So be encouraged today: live like an heir, not like a slave. Stay close to Jesus, rest in His grace, and walk in the freedom of knowing you belong to the Father.
