Grace Over Tradition
Pastor Patrick Mesisca   -

In Luke 14:1-14, Jesus heals a man suffering from dropsy on the Sabbath, a day bound by strict traditions. The Pharisees, clinging to their rules, watched closely, hoping to accuse Him. Yet, Jesus, full of grace, asked them, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?” Silence fell, for they knew the answer but were trapped by their legalism. Then, Jesus turned this moment into a message that would convict the heart and move people to look to others with more compassion.

This powerful moment reminds us that grace triumphs over tradition. While traditions can be valuable, they must never overshadow God’s heart of compassion. Jesus didn’t hesitate to heal because love and mercy surpass rituals. His grace invites us to prioritize people over customs, showing that true faith is marked by caring for others, even when it challenges the status quo.

As we enter the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, may we be mindful of Jesus’ example, embracing grace and extending it to others, especially in places where tradition might have hardened our hearts. Just as Jesus healed on the Sabbath, let us be instruments of His grace, choosing love over rigidity in our interactions with others.
