THE MANNER OF LIFE – Goals of Living
Many Christians divide their lives into two compartments: the sacred and the secular. They believe God is honored only by their devotions or their church attendance.
However, the Westminster Catechism reads, “The chief end of a person is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.”
Paul knew that Christians are called to live in a relationship with God – “for me, to live is Christ.”
That means God speaks and works through people like us. Paul’s goals of living in a relationship with God should be every Christian’s goal.
We should aspire to be proud of the gospel, to speak with courage, to exalt Christ with our bodies, to live daily with Christ, and to know that our lives are useful to God and others.
I pray we’ll be challenged to know our lives are useful to God and others; indeed, our lives are already so important to our church family and in our witness.
I hope you enjoy today’s service of music, worship, God’s Word, and fellowship.
Encouraging One Another,
Pastor Mike
Key Scripture: Philippians 1:20-26
Philippians 1:20-26
20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that through my being with you again your boasting in Christ Jesus will abound on account of me.
